Finding the right job doesn’t necessarily have a formula for success. With so many different factors at play such as timing, location, flexibility, and so forth, let’s talk about a few small tips to lead to faster decision making when evaluating whether a company is the right fit for you!

Application Submitted!

Success, you read the job description and decided that this role is potentially the perfect fit for your skills! So, now what? You could wait… until a recruiter may or may not reach out to you. Or you could move things along in your own way. There’s this great little online platform called LinkedIn, where you can connect with people who just so happen to work at the company you’re currently interested in.

Perhaps it’s worthwhile to get the perspective of a few insiders regarding the culture, pace, leadership, etc. Maybe you want to take it one step further and connect with the hiring manager! This could be a great opportunity to get your first exposure to the department’s leadership style, and it can help push you forward in the recruitment funnel without having to solely rely on the recruiter’s ability to recognize you’ve got skills! So what’s the worst that could happen? You get ghosted and no one is willing to talk to you — and voila, you have your first piece of evidence that this company may not be a good match.

You Landed an Interview!

It’s so exciting to hear that you’ve passed the initial pressure test and you’ve landed a full interview! This is the day where you get to meet the team, tour the facilities, and make the final determination of whether or not you could see yourself working for the company. In preparation for your big day, you could be incredibly nervous and try to anticipate every possible question and answer that may come about. Or you could take matters into your own hands.

Remember how you connected with some people before when you were learning about the company? And maybe you had a. particularly good conversation with one individual. It certainly doesn’t hurt to connect a second time and express your interest and excitement for the big day to come. And don’t forget to mention that you want to make the best possible impression, so if there’s any advice they’d be willing to provide, it would be much appreciated! Next thing you know, you’re feeling more confident, prepared, and at ease about your big day because someone took the time to give you some practical advice. Perhaps at this point, you’re also recognizing that you could see yourself working for a company like this.
